1985 is getting to be a "Long Time Ago"

Been busy as hell. Finally made time to watch a flick on Blu-ray. Guess what it was....

I've always liked this movie. Can't say I understand why other than it's brilliant to look at. The story is as lame as the acting. The visuals hold well though and Tim Curry as the Lord of Darkness is pretty awesome.

Crazy Stuff

Been awhile. Things have been crazy as of late. Literally! Been helping my family deal with my father's psychiatric issues. Special note for everyone: Watch the alcohol intake kids! You'll pay for that shit later on in life if you over do it!

Anyway let's get to the fun stuff. Monster Zero is still going full steam. I've been experimenting with some stuff for it's future that I thought I'd share.

Below is a possible cover to a one shot I've been planning where I'm gonna drag out some the old stuff I did when I was a teen and use it the Monster Zero Universe. Should be amusing.

I've also been asked to contribute to a deviant art group who create fan comics based on the old Transformers cartoon. I've been eager to draw some new things so I thought I'd give it a shot. Here's the cover to the story I'm doing.

There's a few other things I could ramble on about but it's late and I need to rest. Below are some random pics I've done over the last month or so.

Hopefully I'll get around to coloring these someday.

Thanks for looking!

You, who are without mercy, now plead for it?

I find my love of Transformers growing lately. Not in anticipation of the upcoming film or the new Transformers Prime show. All of these modern renditions over complicate the simplistic awesome that is Transformers. Let me spell it out: Giant Robots Fighting! That's it! That's all a good Transformer show/ movie needs. Well, that and they need to look a little less like large piles of walking scrap. The plot is always the same. Optimus and the Autobots must stop Megatron from succeeding in whatever ridiculous scheme he's concocted. The more absurd the better. No Allspark, Trans Metal, Mini Cons, Beast Wars or Magnus Prime! Giant Robots Fighting at all times!

Anyway, enough of my nostalgiaistic rant. I'm just psyched that the toy line is finally revisting some classic characters in the Generations line.

Just finished this pic a while ago. Think it'll probably go up in my son's room when I have it printed. He's a G1 nut! Which is perfect because so is his old man.

Hot Rod is no where to be seen in this rendition. Prime caps Megatron leads the Autobots to a victorious battle where they obliterate the Decpticons stop Unicron and reclaim Cybertron. In this version my inner child doesn't have to weep and sob constantly at the death of one of the greatest toys EVER! Christ! I'm six years away from forty and that shit still hurts! Damn your black hearts Hasbro!

The Redux

This is a old Link pick I did some touch ups on. Kinda creepy. Thought I'd throw it up here. I've been revisiting a lot of old pics lately to see if I can make them more interesting. I'll post some more when I get them finished.

Return of the Fanmen

So I started talking to a friend of mine about an old comic strip we did a few years back. It was gonna be Clerks in a Comic Shop. I sputtered out pretty quick in trying to stay interested. Honestly, the idea of comic strips, while I enjoy reading them, doesn't sit well with me in terms of trying to create one. It's too hard! It takes a far more keen individual to develop and make that shit than me.

Anyway, we got to talking and he expressed how he hated to see it die and wanted to find a way to make it go forward. So I went back and looked it over. There were some good ideas but it needed a better angle than just another comic strip. Besides I'd made the choice not to try and draw that way ever again.

What came out of all this was a rebirth of sorts in the ole' creativity department. I found once I stripped away the whole comic strip (pun intended) angle and looked at it more of as a comic I could actually draw the damn thing.

Long story short: We're develop a relaunch of sorts to an old idea known as the Fanmen. This time however it's a much more expanded take designed around a more traditional comic book storytelling style. Should be fun! Here's a peek!

Card Art

Been a crazy ass week! A lot of stuff going on personally. Still had a chance to do some drawing this week though. Not just the standard Monster Zero work but stuff for fun rather than commitment. Always cooler when you're not pressured.

These are all the size of baseball cards. Strathmore makes these I think. They're called art cards. They make some for painting as well. I picked up a bunch cause "you never know".
